Mother's day flower pre-orders open today!

We have lots of special tulip varieties that will be ready just in time for Mother’s Day! In addition to the Angelique, Aveyron, Charming Beauty and Creme Upstar tulips that we’ve been enjoying, we have the very first of the Avignon and Menton varieties. There are also daffodils, herb seedling and mushrooms available as well. Orders open today, Wednesday May 4th at Noon (orders will close at 7am Friday) for pick-up Friday 2pm-4pm, Friday 4pm-6pm or Saturday 11am-1pm.

• Avignon tulips - Fire red and orange flushed with raspberry-pink shaded orange towards the edge. Single blooming type. Bunches of 10 stems, wrapped in brown paper. Certified organic.

• Charming Beauty tulips- Large double blooming with apricot-orange petals that deepen in color as they bloom. Bunches of 8-10 stems, wrapped in brown paper. Certified organic.

• Creme Upstar tulips - Light yellow flowers with rose edges and ivory interior. These are double blooming peony-type tulips. They are a new variety for us! Bunches of 8-10 stems, wrapped in brown paper. Certified organic.

• Menton tulips - Rose-pink with apricot-pink petal edges. Single blooming type. Bunches of 10 stems, wrapped in brown paper. Certified organic.

• Fancy daffodils - 10 stems. Certified organic.

• Herb seedlings: Sage, Parsley, Thyme. All suitable for container or garden planting. Certified organic.

• Fat Moon Mushrooms - Farmer’s Mix, 8 oz bags. Certified organic, grown in Chelmsford, MA. This is separate from the Mushroom CSA!

Happy May! Tulips, daffodils, and herb seedlings for sale

May is in many ways the most important month on the farm - it is the time when most crops are planted and when we get everything set up for the season. The pressure we feel this month is a mix of stress and excitement - if we get behind or have something go wrong in May then we feel the consequences for the rest of the season, but on the other hand seeing the first seeded crops germinating in the field never gets old! Another highlight of early May is that we reach the height of our tulip harvest (just in time for Mother’s Day! See below for details). We couldn’t talk about May on the farm without providing an asparagus update of course! The asparagus is starting to come up so we will likely have our first asparagus for online-pre-ordering by next week! Growth tends to be slower for the first week but if we get some consistent warm weather then by May 16th we should have enough to open for walk up self serve sales!

There are tulips, daffodils and herb seedlings available for pre-ordering today for pick-up tomorrow from 2pm-4pm and 4pm-6pm! Mushroom CSA members, if you would like to order additional items we will combine your order with your mushroom CSA and put it out at your selected time (2pm is the earliest we can have orders ready). The crew has been planting away this week! There is now lettuce, kohlrabi, bok choy and kale in the ground. These are all crops that can tolerate cooler temperatures as we are still getting some cold nights! We are continuing to harvest tulips and fancy daffodils from the field as well as a few crops from the high tunnels. We are keeping an eye on the asparagus, it looks like it will be ready for harvest in a week or two! Last week was quite busy, but the highlights were planting most of our leeks and onions, and putting a new covering on one of our high tunnels! This week we have even more planting ahead of us, with lettuce, cabbage, kale, kohlrabi, potatoes and strawberries scheduled to go into the ground.

This is the first week of the Mushroom CSA from Fat Moon! If you are part of the mushroom CSA, you should have received a welcome email directly from Fat Moon on Sunday, and you will be receiving one directly from us today with more details. Pick-ups will be self-serve on Tuesdays, 11am- 6pm for the first 5 weeks. Your mushrooms will be set out on the farm stand porch labeled with your last name. This week’s share includes Lion’s Mane and Oyster mushrooms!

In addition, we have flowers (including Orange Princess tulips and fancy daffodils!), radishes, and extra mushrooms available for pre-orders. Online ordering will open today, Monday April 25th at noon for pick up Tuesday, April 26th from 2pm-4pm and 4pm-6pm (ordering will close at 7am Tuesday).
